Yes, that is a full stick of garlic butter in with the potatoes. No, it wasn’t my idea.

This was taken on a camping trip we went on this summer. Our friend Jon, who was in charge of the potatoes, tried to hide the ‘secret ingredient’ from us. Unfortunately for me, I stepped behind the cooktop and witnessed what would soon be the cause of my belly ache.

I doubt it gets much use.

I love things that are rusty. The rust was so thick that it was just falling off in big chunks. Who knows how long it’s been there…and how long it’s been since it held any kind of vessel in place. I just know that I like it.

What I’m daydreaming about when I should be thinking about work.

On the first day of my new job I added a few pictures to the cabinet above my desk so I’d have some to look at as I was missing Jaia during the day. In the months since I’ve worked here, I’ve continued to add some of my favourites on a regular basis and the collection just continues to grow.

Being able to take a quick glance at that smile helps me get through some of the hardest of days.

The Royal Naval Dockyard is chock full of these wonderful old buildings, nearly none of which have fully-functioning windows (despite the fact that many of them house stores and restaurants). The result? Lots of birds with indoor accommodations. I spotted this little guy a couple of weeks ago when we were in Dockyard picking up a rum cake for me to take home for Dad’s birthday. He was making a racket. The bird…not my Dad.

I’m really hungry right now, so all I can think of is food. I was going to post a photo from the Rugby Classic’s final last night, but for now, these shrimp (grilled with garlic, lemon slices, butter and slices of spicy chorizo) won out. SO delicious.

A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving is one of Dan’s favourite books. He bought it for me for Christmas last year in hopes that I might read it and love it as well. Unfortunately, even after hearing such high praises, I just couldn’t seem to get into it, no matter how hard I tried.

Jaia, on the other hand, was intrigued as soon as she picked it up. What a daddy’s girl.

I’ll never get over the colour of the water.

Every time I fly back and look at the Island from the air, I think the water looks fake. It is just way too blue.
